I found this poem in a 5p book from the Lymington Community Centre some years ago, handwritten, in both Polish and English.

'A znasz ty ten kraj,
Gdzie brzegiem strumyka -
kaliny i niewzapominiajkl wsna?
Za tym krajem, jakby za ajem,
co dzien ja wzdycham i ptacze.'

----------

'Do you know the country,
Where grow on the stream - Bank Guelder rose and forget me not?
I am longing for this country,
As for paradise every days,
I am languishing for and crying.'

For Miss Lilian Hammond
For an ever remember from a Polish soldier, exile.

Does anyone know either of these people or their families? I should like to give the book to their direct descendants, if proof of their relationship is provided.
